Cable Ties

Cable Ties are a fierce, tense rock’n’roll trio. They take the three minute punk burner and stretch it past breaking point to deliver smouldering feminist anthems. Post-punk and garage rock hammered together by a relentless rhythmic pulse. Jenny McKechnie channels her struggles into songs that resonate deeply, giving voice to feelings often buried in modern life. Shauna Boyle and Nick Brown are a rhythm section anchored in Stooges primitivism - relentlessly pounding out a bedrock for McKechnie's guitar pyrotechnics and vocal wallop. Three friends summoning a rhythmic tide to deliver anthems that turn latent anxieties into a rallying cry.

Cable Ties released anthemic new single Time For You in March 2023, and announced third album All Her Plans for release June 2023 via Poison City in Aus/NZ, US label Merge Records for the rest of the world. The announcement was covered in Stereogum, NME Australia, Line Of Best Fit, Brooklyn Vegan, Music Feeds and elsewhere, and Time For You has been added to rotation on Double J. Prior to this, Cable Ties released fiery standalone single Perfect Client and headed to UK/Europe for a run of shows with US punk legends OFF! in January – their first international shows since 2019.

Cable Ties previous album Far Enough came out in March 2020 via Poison City/Merge, and was covered by Rolling Stone US, Grammy.com, NPR, The Age, The Monthly and elsewhere. Far Enough won Best Rock/Punk Album at the 2020 Music Victoria Awards. In May 2021 Cable Ties released live album Live At the Scrap Museum, which hit #1 on the AIR 100% Independent Album charts.

Their self-titled debut, released in 2017 on Poison City, was a Triple J feature album and album of the week on 3RRR, with strong support nationally from community radio.

The band has been committed to an inclusive feminist and political outlook since its inception in 2015, exploring issues of gendered violence, colonialism and sexual assault. The band members have been involved in benefit shows, organised DIY festivals and volunteered with Girls Rock!

The band toured UK/Europe in 2017 supporting Jen Cloher. They returned to the UK in May 2019 to play The Great Escape and shows with Tropical Fuck Storm and Amyl & the Sniffers. In Australia they’ve played Bigsound, Laneway nationally, Boogie and Meredith. Since live music returned post-pandemic, they’ve headlined two sold-out shows at the Forum Theatre and played Boogie, Darwin Festival and more. They have UK/Europe shows with Amyl & the Sniffers coming up in August this year, and a US tour with Superchunk in September.

In Australia, Cable Ties have played with artists such as Sleaford Mods, Joan Jett, The Kills, Camp Cope and Cash Savage. They won Best Hard Rock Act at the 2017 National Live Music Awards, the Corner Music Award in 2017.
