It’s not often that you come across an upcoming artist, hailing from Melbourne, Australia, that has been co-signed by two Neo-Soul Queens, Jill Scott and Erykah Badu, as their musical love child from down under. Kaiit, who has been singing since she can remember, is blessed with an enchanting voice that crosses musical boundaries managing to mesmerise listeners all around the world with her unique personality and sound.
Born in Papua New Guinea, Kaiit bounced back and forth between Australia and her homeland as a child before her family eventually settled down in Melbourne.
Over the years, Kaiit developed a love for jazz and neo-soul, which is evident in her music and draws inspiration from Amy Winehouse, Lauryn Hill and the contemporary sounds of Noname Gypsy and SZA.
Kaiit’s significant rise as a recognised artist has been a result of independent organic growth that all started with her first ever release ‘Natural Woman’, which went viral and happened to woo the hearts of many lovers of music who needed a refreshing cleanse to their sonic palette. This continued with her releases ‘Og Luv Kush p.2’, and her debut EP ‘Live From Her Room’ in 2018, that manifested the attention of a worldwide audience, gaining a total of over 7.5 million streams on Spotify.
In the second half of 2018, Kaiit travelled across Australia and New Zealand on her first sold out 13 date National Tour which lead to sharing the same stage with respected international artists such as Aloe Blacc, Smino and The Internet at their Australian shows. Earlier in 2019, Kaiit travelled overseas for a European tour with two sell out shows in London, and making appearances at multiple festivals, where she was referred to as one of the top 10 acts of The Great Escape 2019 by multiple European publications.
The release of her latest single ‘Miss Shiney’, accompanied by a stunning and highly praised visual, truly projected Kaiit’s shine even further into the limelight, receiving critical acclaim and accumulating more than 3 million streams on Spotify and YouTube, and featured in several publications such as Sniffers and The Music.
Significant milestones from the young and rising star include making the 2019 Youtube shortlist, nominated for Best Female Musician for the 2018 Age awards, featuring on Beats One with Zane Lowe, and was the highly sought after artist at Big Sound in 2018.
‘Miss Shiney’ was also awarded the ‘Unpublished’ Prize in the Vanda and Young Global Songwriting Competition and Kaiit recently received the ‘Fresh New Artist Of The Year’ award with The National Indigenous Music Awards.
